Your Path to Becoming an EndoYoga Teacher: Yoga Therapy Adapted to Endometriosis/Adenomyosis.
Do you want to develop the skills and knowledge you need to better help and support women affected by endometriosis/adenomyosis? Including yourself?
In this article, I share a glimpse of my journey over the past decade and how it has led me to the path of teaching through specialized training in yoga therapy for endometriosis with EndoYoga® Flow. I also share personal testimonials from EndoYoga teachers who have completed this training to gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and expertise to help women affected by endometriosis, and ultimately, themselves in their personal and professional journeys.
Endometriosis has been a “life teacher” and has gradually illuminated my path and mission as a yoga teacher to help and support women, especially those living with endometriosis.
10 years…
This summer of 2023 marks 10 years of my journey with endometriosis. Yoga and endometriosis have accelerated my path to self-knowledge, better navigation of the challenges and many surprises of this condition, and a return to a holistic balance of body, heart, and mind.
Over the past decade, I have dedicated thousands of hours to studying, researching, personal practice, guiding and teaching yoga for endometriosis to students, training yoga teachers and healthcare professionals, and publishing a book.
Endometriosis has been a “life teacher” and has gradually illuminated my path and mission as a yoga teacher to help and support women, especially those living with endometriosis.
It was far from an initial intention, and even less obvious. The topic was absent from conversations and the media, uncomfortable, taboo…
Yet, it was as if I was being “carried” by something greater than myself. I had to embrace this unknown, uncertain, uncomfortable path.
It began in 2015 with the first individual yoga therapy sessions adapted for women with endometriosis and thematic workshops.
“I’m not sure what to offer.”
“Can I suggest this posture, this breath…?”
“I don’t know where to start.”
“Why does this posture trigger pain or discomfort for the student?”
…
Yoga teachers often feel helpless when faced with the complexity of endometriosis – much more than just pain related to menstruation – and healthcare professionals have reached out to me to gain a better understanding and learn adapted and holistic practices to support each of their students/patients, always with the great kindness that women so desperately need. The training programs naturally fell into place.
The opportunity to write a book presented itself as a wonderful chance to accelerate the movement and provide tools to even more women affected by endometriosis. How to convey practical advice based on sound knowledge and tailored to each person in a book? The challenge was to write it and bring it to life in a short time, providing essential keys to help women amidst the multitude of possible advice, as personalization is necessary. “Mieux vivre l’endométriose au naturel” (Living Better with Endometriosis Naturally) was published in March 2022, during Endometriosis Awareness Month. It gathers simple practical advice illustrated to help women live better with endometriosis through yoga, Ayurveda, mindfulness, nutrition, and naturopathy…
Ultimately, the path of yoga naturally unfolded as a way to enlighten as many women as possible to find peace and lasting balance in the face of endometriosis, and to empower professionals who can, in turn, help them.
As yoga teachers, we have a unique opportunity to help and shed light on women affected by endometriosis/adenomyosis through yoga and personalized yoga therapy practices.
Helping women affected by endometriosis through yoga
Today, endometriosis affects one in seven to one in ten women, more than two million women in France alone. Yet, it is often misunderstood and underdiagnosed.
It can cause menstrual or chronic pain, fatigue, fertility issues, and numerous other physical (digestive, urinary, immune, etc.) and emotional troubles.
Today, affected women often feel (still) alone and helpless (despite the plethora of information on the internet, among other sources).
Women are increasingly turning to yoga to support them in their daily lives and take an active role in their health and well-being. Scientific studies and feedback collected over all these years have shown that yoga helps manage endometriosis symptoms and improves the quality of life for women who suffer from it.
They also seek trusted and trained professionals who can understand, support, and guide them with more adapted and personalized practices – with (much) less rather than more – in a holistic, safe, and compassionate manner.
As yoga teachers, we have a unique opportunity to help and shed light on women affected by endometriosis/adenomyosis through yoga and personalized yoga therapy practices.
If you feel called to help women with endometriosis, our specialized yoga teacher and yoga therapy training for endometriosis is an opportunity to deepen your knowledge, practical skills, and expertise. Discover the EndoYoga® Teacher Training.
Why such “specific” yoga teacher training for endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a complex condition that requires an enlightened, adapted, holistic, and compassionate approach.
Since the beginning of my teachings and support in 2015, I have experienced this complexity. There are as many variations of endometriosis as there are women. While women may feel helpless, lost, or in search of accurate information or practices that suit them, we, as yoga teachers, may also feel lost alongside the student affected by endometriosis.
What are the main reasons why we may feel stuck? Please leave me a message to discuss and provide you with insights to better support your student.
Questions, doubts, fears, false beliefs, lack of understanding or perspective…
“I don’t know/ no longer know what to do. She had abdominal pain, now it’s digestive.”
“The student experiences pain and discomfort in the butterfly posture.”
“She didn’t come; she recently had surgery.”
“She doesn’t have her period but still experiences pain.”
“The four seasons of the feminine rhythm, I don’t see how to approach it in this case.”
“Can I suggest inversions?”
…
Very often, my response to these questions is: “It depends.” and often leads to many more questions. I certainly cannot answer these questions without knowing more about the person, their journey, their daily life, their intention, their observations, and their listening during a session…
A holistic approach takes into account the balanced and dynamic integration of our environment, body, mind, and soul. Harmonizing with one’s nature and nature itself is essential to regain optimal well-being and health (and cultivating them).
My intention is to provide the necessary wisdom so that you know what to do with confidence, based on your own sensitivity and journey. It’s about bridging the gap between the “What should I do?” of yoga teachers and the “I wish I had met someone like you earlier…” of women affected by endometriosis. This involves understanding and studying oneself, practicing and integrating it, guiding and transmitting it.
Training in yoga therapy adapted to endometriosis
The EndoYoga® Flow yoga therapy training program provides in-depth knowledge of the condition, its impact on physical, mental, and emotional well-being, as well as holistic yoga practices specifically adapted to support individuals with endometriosis.
It includes three main parts:
- Understanding (endometriosis, yoga therapy, yoga adapted to endometriosis…) and self-knowledge (cycle, functioning, imbalances…)
- Experience and integration through practice
- Pedagogy, transmission, and guidance to support and guide your students with endometriosis/adenomyosis
Participants learn to create adapted yoga sessions in group settings and personalized individual sessions with appropriate variations and practices that meet the unique needs of each student on their journey. You will know what to offer, how, and when to promote pain relief during crises, longer-lasting balance, and a sense of autonomy for each student.
I particularly wanted to incorporate:
- A small group size, with a maximum of 10 students, to provide personalized attention and support to each participant.
- Integration of yoga philosophy and system into the teaching framework.
- Insights into the latest scientific research on endometriosis and how to integrate it into teaching.
- Practice sessions, case studies, and supervised teaching experiences to build confidence and competence in sessions with individuals affected by endometriosis.
- Less is More (one of the most challenging parts for trainees in the EndoYoga® teacher training) – knowing how to offer the most suitable practice for each person that they can easily integrate into their daily lives and/or when needed.
Embracing on the path to becoming an EndoYoga teacher through the specialized and tailored EndoYoga Flow training program is a wonderful opportunity to share and transmit the path of yoga, light, and heart, to develop your expertise, and to make an immeasurable difference in the lives of your (future) students affected by endometriosis.
Thank you for your presence and for contributing to making a difference in the lives of women with endometriosis.
With light and gratitude,
Aurélie
