5 tips to increase traffic to your yoga website

May 16, 2023 | Business & Mindset

Do you want your site to appear on the first page of Google results? Search engine optimization (SEO) is essential to be found online organically without having to pay Google. It depends on two main factors: quality and authority. The quality of content, for example, depends on the relevance of your site’s content to a particular search by Internet users and the authority that search engines give to this content.

SEO is complex and not really known in fact to perfectly master it and know all its workings, it would be too easy. Nevertheless, there are still factors that allow you to improve your SEO on Google, i.e. your position in search results: quality, download time of your site, authority, time spent on your site…

1. Quality content for your Internet users

To create organic traffic, the content of the site must attract the attention of a large number of Internet users who may be interested in your offers and services, such as yoga classes adapted to endometriosis, yoga classes for women’s fertility… The pages of your site must thus meet what your audience is looking for. Blog articles are a good way to provide quality content that interests your readers and responds to one of their research or problem.

What is quality content? It answers a question your students ask themselves and adds value. To begin with, ask yourself: “What are the questions about yoga that many of my students seem to ask themselves? Create consistent and thoughtful blog articles around these topics.

Use simple and accessible language as if you were talking to a 12-year-old child. Create short, airy paragraphs and organize your ideas using lists, numbers or bullets.

Remember that Less is more and that quality prevails over quantity.

Do not hesitate to use photos, graphics, illustrations, quotes… You can also pin them on Pinterest.

Remember that Less is more and that quality prevails over quantity.

2. Optimize the size of your images

You have beautiful images of yoga, meditation, well-being, calm and inspiring landscapes… Maybe you found them on Unsplash. They have a certain weight and this penalizes the loading speed of your site. Google doesn’t like it and your SEO may be affected.

According to HTTP Archive, images represent on average 21% of the total weight of a web page.

We may be tempted to convert them to jpeg. This may affect the quality of your image.

That’s why I strongly recommend that you compress your images before uploading them to your site. You can do this in Photoshop or use a tool like WP Smush. It’s a WordPress plugin. It reduces the size of the image file without removing its quality.

Whatever plugin you use, make sure you find one that compresses images externally on its servers. This reduces the load on your own site.

3. Rename your images

When it comes to SEO, the wording and description of your images with keywords is absolutely crucial. You have to rename your images.

Image file names alert Google and other search engine crawlers to the subject of the image. And will suggest them to the Internet user who is looking for a subject related to the words of your image. It is said that this will interest the Internet user who does this research.

Generally, file names look like “IMG_4017” or something similar. It’s like ordering a menu in another language. This does not help Google to provide the Internet user with what he is looking for, so it does not consider your image interesting for the person.

Change the default file name to help search engines understand your image. This helps to improve your SEO.

For example, you have an IMG-4017 image with you in a yoga posture – balasana or the child’s posture – because your blog post deals with the appeasement of the body and mind by yoga. We could rename the photo “Yoga posture-1′′ or “child posture”. We can be a little clearer to help Google. Rename your image “child posture in case of stress”. I named this image “child posture in case of stress” to allow users and search engines to understand the image.

This certainly requires a little work, depending on the extent of your media library, but changing and customizing the name of the default image will help your SEO.

4. Create backlinks to your site

Qézako? This is when the URL of your site is on another “reputable” website, highly frequented and well ranked by Google. Links from other sites to yours signal authority to search engines.

The good news is that with quality content, other sites are more likely to reference yours because it brings them added value for their community.

Do not hesitate to ask your association or town hall to list your site on theirs if you offer yoga classes in these structures. Be sure to ask that it be put in “follow” and not in “no follow” otherwise Google will not consider it.

5. Create an internal mesh

The internal mesh generally refers to the organization of the internal links of your website. These are the links located on your site that link to another page in your domain. For example, you are on this article that deals with SEO and Google SEO for your yoga site. You therefore want to improve your yoga activity with adapted advice. You may also be interested in this article whose topic is “How to complete your yoga classes online”. You see that this is a link to another page on my site. Here, an article. It’s internal mesh.

You will certainly read the other article, spend more time on my site, browse several pages. This is a very good indicator for Google and will improve your position in search engines.

Note, however, that it is better to avoid abusing it. Three or four links will be enough. Give preference to parsimony and use them only when justified. We will not place a link to each paragraph or put a link to an anti-inflammatory ayurvedic recipe for golden milk if the article talks about his professional retraining as a yoga teacher.

As you have understood, natural referencing and working on your SEO is important to create traffic on your site, that people find you and can help them with the gift of yoga.

According to several studies including Google, the results of the 1st page of a Google search collect nearly 2/3 of clicks, while the results of pages 2 and 3 combined are only consulted by 6% of Internet users.
